Steve Horn

Steve Horn Receives Grant for Return to Bosnia – Islands Weekly

CEC ArtsLink, based in New York City, has selected photographer Steve Horn as one of its 2009 Award recipients. This year’s selections represent artists and arts managers from throughout the U.S. and from 16 other countries.

All are welcome to a Lopez Artist Guild-sponsored opening reception for Steve at the Lopez Center for Community and the Arts on Friday, May 8 from 5 - 6:30 p.m. His exhibition, Pictures Without Borders: Bosnia Revisited, will be on display for the first time in the San Juans since its creation by the Religion, Conflict, and Peacebuilding Initiative at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in late 2007. His book with the same title is available at local bookstores.

Tucked away on the west facing point of Neck Point Coves, with a waterline view of Yellow and San Juan Island, lies the home and studio of oil painter Eric Boyles. A nine-year resident of the San Juans, he is known to many on Shaw Island as their local gardener and landscape artist. But to those of you who have happened upon his work at the Lopez or Orcas Island Farmers markets, he is known for his three dimensional landscapes, inspired by the style and technique of the late Bob Ross. ART IN THE PARK – YOURS!

The Summit Gift Shop on top of Mt. Constitution opens May 15, - 11-4 every day through Labor Day. Last year Friends of Moran State Park raised approximately $25,000 for park projects. They support buying local by seeking park designs from local artists for cups, shirts, hats and framed art.
